Usher: Week One Sales

Chart news.. and it’s Usher’s new record’s week one sales.

In the US he was this year’s second biggest debut - 445,000 copies sold. The
only person who has sold more in one week this year is Mariah Carey with 476,000
in the US. And on a WORLDWIDE level, Ush sold 600,000 copies in his first
week… which was beaten by both Mariah (617k) and Madonna (802k). Sure, Usher
has done very well, but it was below expectations. I heard him throwing around
the "1 million in 1 week" figures. NOT QUITE USHER!

Usher is already on his second single, music video, has performed live promo
performances, and is doing youtube video podcasts called ‘uCasts’ to promote the
new album. Will the coming weeks consist of solid sales? Or will we see a Mariah
Carey like sales plummet? I’m guessing it will be a more steady and long ride
than Mariah…

He is following sales of in excess of 15 million copies on his
last album; Confessions (2004)… so he has to pull out a miracle to beat that!
